Writers have been busy at work this year at Spring Creek Elementary! All over campus, students are generating writing around topics that matter to them. It's exciting to see writers choosing topics they care about and developing those topics to share with others! Here at Spring Creek, our writers are making books and keeping notebooks in other content areas as well. Scientific writers are keeping notebooks to hold observations and scientific evidence. These writers have things to say and stories to tell. We can't wait to see these young writers grow throughout the year!
As we end another school year, we look forward to all the learning ahead of us! These young writers in Mrs. Bradham's First grade class are already helping prepare the Kindergarten students in Mrs. Rogers class for next year. The First graders shared the letters that they wrote to inform the Kindergarten students of all the learning adventures ahead of them as future First grade cardinals here at Spring Creek Elementary!
Here at Spring Creek Elementary, writers are still going strong! Mrs. Dungan's fourth graders recently shared their book projects with Mrs. Penick's second graders. The students enjoyed sharing their work with other young authors. Publishing for real audiences is great fun!
Last week, student authors shared their published pieces and writing portfolios with their families at our annual SC Publishing Night. It was an amazing night for all of our Spring Creek authors and artists! The students enjoyed reading and talking about their books. It was a special night to celebrate all the writing collections of these published young authors!
In addition to honoring our student authors, we also celebrated National Poem in Your Pocket Day last Thursday. As part of National Poetry Month in April, student poets wrote and shared poems throughout the school. All through the hallways, students and staff picked a poem to carry in their pocket for the day. It was fun to see the excitement and joy that poetry can bring!
The fourth grade scientists in Mrs. Mann's classes wrote picture books to share all they know about science vocabulary words that they have been studying. The students chose their own science topics to feature in their books. Each student designed, drafted, and revised/edited their picture book. After publishing their stories, they read them to a younger audience. Writing is fun in Science!
'Tis the season for sharing good books with friends! These young authors have been working hard on all sorts of books to share with their writing buddies. Some of our SC kindergartners and first graders enjoyed reading their picture books to the third graders. The second graders in Mrs. Penick's class paired up with the fourth graders in Mrs. Dungan's class to share their writing pieces. All students shared in the joy of reading their published books to a friend!
Meanwhile, Mrs. Jacobson's second graders, spent some time reading books with flashlights by the fireside. It looks like a cozy celebration of reading!
The unexpected, yet welcomed snowfall, set the perfect mood for celebrating poetry and drinking hot chocolate. Mrs. Dungan's fourth grade writers wrote and read poetry throughout the chilly day. These incredible poets shared a variety of poetry pieces! You can find all of the hot chocolate poetry offerings HERE on Mrs. Dungan's class website.
Mrs. Clark's kindergartners had fun sharing their newly written pattern books with Mrs. Barrett's third grade class. When student authors have the opportunity to publish and share, their energy for the next project is heightened. These writers have so much to say!
The fourth grade students at Spring Creek Elementary went on a Writing Retreat to a local park. It was a great experience for these writers and the result was lots of writing! Students sketched, made lists, wrote poems, and started stories in their notebooks. Each writer used unique strategies to generate writing in their notebook. Writers began to jot down things they noticed, observed, or wondered about. What a great way to gather writing ideas!
The kindergartners in Mrs. Tipton's and Mrs. Anderson's class enjoyed reading with Mrs. Jacobson's and Ms. McGehee's second graders. They took turns reading books by published authors as well as books they had published themselves as authors. Celebrating readers and writers is so much fun!
