Students in Mrs. Mann's science workshop have been talking about the importance of observations and making inferences. One of the ways writers explore their ideas and thinking is through visual observations. As Mrs. Mann shared a wordless picture book, the writers were invited to study the images and to use those images for making story inferences. Writers were filling page after page of their notebooks!
Using visual images to spark ideas for thinking and writing is a great strategy to help students make connections between the kinds of thinking scientists and writers both do within a process.
