It has been a fabulous December filled with student publications here at Spring Creek! Mrs. Mann's fourth grade group of scientific writers, created their own science picture books and poem anthologies to share with Head Start, Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students. What a great way to bring science to life for these young readers!
The fourth grade students in Mrs. Dungan's class joined in the publication fun by sharing their Fiction Stories with Mrs. Penick's second graders.
The students in Ms. Knowles' third grade class shared their second personal narrative stories with Mrs. Shafer's first graders and Mrs. Clark's kindergarten class. It certainly was a festive season of publications! It will be so fun to see what these Spring Creek writers publish in the new year.
Mrs. Edden's first grade class recently wrote letters of gratitude to the Spring Creek Cafeteria monitors and staff. Writing letters is a great way to express our feelings of thankfulness. Just look at those smiles and hugs!
The Kindergartners in Mrs. Clark's class and the First graders in Mrs. Shafer's class were eager to share their favorite pattern books with their Third grade writing buddies. The students in Mrs. Barrett's and Ms. Knowles' class were a perfect audience! Several of these Kindergarten writers will be featured in the library author corner as well. Way to go authors!
We are so very thankful for our writing partnerships here at Spring Creek! The students in Mrs. Bradham's first grade class and the kindergartners in Ms.Kahan's class are certainly grateful to have their writing buddies.
Just look at the all the sharing of books happening between Mrs. Anderson's kindergartners and Ms. McGehee's second graders! It looks like some great conversations are taking place as well. It is such a special time for all these writers!
Last Thursday, Spring Creek students celebrated the NCTE's National Day on Writing! This special day is held every year on October 20. It is a day for celebrating and sharing writing! It looks like our Spring Creek writers had a blast writing about the things they love.
Take a look at some of the writing from Mrs. Penick's second grade class. Her students wrote Halloween poems while listening to spooky music!
Check out Mrs. Moore's first graders making books and sharing stories from the heart! These writers certainly have so many reasons for writing.
Some of our third and fourth grade writers created these color poems. They are filled with sensational similes!
Ms. Knowles third graders and Mrs. Shafer's first graders recently celebrated their writing by sharing in partnerships. It means so much to these young writers to have a friendly reader to share with. This was the first meeting of the class partnership, and it certainly won't be the last!
Spring Creek fourth graders spent the morning participating in an outdoor learning retreat! Students rotated through various learning rotations and had some time to write in their notebooks as well. It was amazing to see all the writing being generated. What a great opportunity for these writers to collect on their thoughts and observations while being inspired by nature.
Students in Mrs. Mann's science workshop have been talking about the importance of observations and making inferences. One of the ways writers explore their ideas and thinking is through visual observations. As Mrs. Mann shared a wordless picture book, the writers were invited to study the images and to use those images for making story inferences. Writers were filling page after page of their notebooks!
Using visual images to spark ideas for thinking and writing is a great strategy to help students make connections between the kinds of thinking scientists and writers both do within a process.
Mrs. Mann's fourth grade Scientific writers have already been generating some important thoughts in their Science Notebooks this year. What a great way to invite writers to jot their ideas onto the page by offering a digital image to think about. These writers will certainly have a notebook full of thinking this year as they continue to observe and reflect through invitations to write!
Mrs. Anderson's kindergarten class kicked off the new year in Writers' Workshop by making books about topics they love! These busy writers went straight to work on their books on the very first week of school. It will be so much fun to see all of the books these authors will write and publish throughout the year!
