Our writing partnerships at Spring Creek for the 2017 school year have begun! Each year, classrooms across our campus are paired up so that our authors are able to share their published pieces with an audience. Publication is truly valued here at Spring Creek, and we want to honor and celebrate our writers.
Mrs. Moore's first grade class and Mrs. Richards' third grade class have just finished their first published piece, so they have decided to read and share with their writing buddies. Thanks to these magnificent authors for kicking off our writing partnerships this year!
We are so excited to kick off the 2017 School Year in Writers' Workshop here at Spring Creek! These busy writers in Mrs. Anderson's kindergarten class are working on stories about topics they care about. Throughout the year, young writers will create books and texts for publication. We hope you can continue to follow our blog this year as we celebrate our Spring Creek Writers.
Thanks to Mrs. Anderson's kindergarten class for giving us a peek into your writers' workshop. Happy writing!
About a month ago, Mrs. Anderson decided to make Fridays free writing time for her kindergartners. Her authors LOVED the idea! During this time, Mrs. Anderson encourages her students to write and draw whatever they want. When writers choose topics that they care about and are not tied to a certain genre, it is called a non genre specific project. It may be that students are writing poems. a creative story, or another genre of interest. Mrs. Anderson has noticed how engaged the students are in their writing during this time. This is something she plans to continue with her future writers as well!
Our Spring Creek Publishing Night 2017 was a grand celebration of all our young artists and authors! It was so exciting to see these writers sharing their own published stories with their families. Honoring these young authors and marveling over their growth throughout the year is so important here at Spring Creek.
Congratulations to all of our artists and authors!
Many of our Spring Creek students and teachers made time to Drop Everything And Read yesterday! Some students and teachers visited our camp out rooms to enjoy some reading time. Ms. Kahan's kindergarten class really enjoyed reading stories in the beach room! The students in Mrs. Moore's first grade class and Mrs. Clark's kindergarten class had a different celebration for National DEAR Day. They had mystery readers from the community come in and read to them. It's always fun to celebrate the joy of reading books!
The writers in Mrs. Smith's second grade class shared their All-About books with Mrs. Hugghin's fourth grade class. It has been so neat to watch the Writing Partnerships grow this year at Spring Creek. You can really tell the how much these writers appreciate having each other to share their publications with.
Ms. McGehee's second graders recently published their All about Books. They decided to share with their writing buddies in Mrs. Anderson's kindergarten class.
It looks like the writers had a lot of fun sharing the writing topics that they care about and already know a lot about. These young authors are busy celebrating publication and the power of partnerships!
Spring Creek students recently celebrated Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading and writing all throughout the campus. Mrs. Hugghin's fourth graders met with Mrs. Smith's second graders to read their books about historical figures in America.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Moore's first grade class wrote their very own rhyming books in honor of the great Dr. Seuss. Students were filled with the excitement of reading!
Mrs. Moore's first grade writers took advantage of this beautiful spring-like weather and held their writers' workshop outdoors today. Writers know that they can find inspiration in all kinds of different settings. These young writers are proving that writing can happen anywhere!
Our Spring Creek readers and writers participated in their second D.E.A.R day! Many students got to experience camping out with books at our school beach and campsite. Readers had a blast! It was such a fun way to celebrate the importance of taking time to establish a reading life. These readers all agree that camping out with books is fun!
