Spring Creek fourth graders spent the morning participating in an outdoor learning retreat! Students rotated through various learning rotations and had some time to write in their notebooks as well. Students in Mrs. Mann's science workshop have been talking about the importance of observations and making inferences. One of the ways writers explore their ideas and thinking is through visual observations. As Mrs. Mann shared a wordless picture book, the writers were invited to study the images and to use those images for making story inferences. Writers were filling page after page of their notebooks!
Using visual images to spark ideas for thinking and writing is a great strategy to help students make connections between the kinds of thinking scientists and writers both do within a process.
Mrs. Mann's fourth grade Scientific writers have already been generating some important thoughts in their Science Notebooks this year. What a great way to invite writers to jot their ideas onto the page by offering a digital image to think about. These writers will certainly have a notebook full of thinking this year as they continue to observe and reflect through invitations to write!
Mrs. Anderson's kindergarten class kicked off the new year in Writers' Workshop by making books about topics they love! These busy writers went straight to work on their books on the very first week of school. It will be so much fun to see all of the books these authors will write and publish throughout the year!
Ms. Knowles and Mrs. Barrett's third grade classes just finished four weeks of animal research. They learned how to conduct research and use the information to create a product. Each student wrote informational brochures and created dioramas. All the students gave a presentation about what they learned. To celebrate publication, the students invited other classes to come to their research museum.
What a great way to share research publication!
The fourth grade writers here at Spring Creek are camping out this week! They are super excited about this adventurous writing retreat.
