The first grade students in Mrs. Bradham's class were thrilled to receive personal letters from their pen pal friends in Oklahoma. Mrs. Bradham teamed up with her dear friend Mrs. Garrett (now teaching second grade in Oklahoma) to establish this wonderful long distance writing partnership. All of the students had so much fun writing and receiving letters! It was a marvelous opportunity to correspond with new friends through letter writing.
Our amazing fourth graders here at Spring Creek recently wrote a nonfiction book over a science word or concept they had previously learned about.
Mrs. Mann and her students invited "guest" teachers and writers to come visit throughout the project to help support them through the writing process.
After the books were published, this group of scientific writers shared their work with a younger audience through writing partnerships. The rooms were filled with excitement as the writers shared with their little buddies!
This group of scientific writers had an amazing amount of support from their teacher Mrs. Mann throughout this workshop. As you can see from the pictures below, the writers established their own workshop expectations. Within this workshop, students worked within notebooks, created writing process anchor-charts, and chose appropriate mentor texts to support their work.
